I don't know much about this Viola odorata cultivar, other than that it is named "Beetroot" because it is said to look like the inside of, well, beetroot.  No surprises there.  Before it opens, it is much darker but then unfurls just like this and gradually becomes a tad lighter.  Very unusual.  Zones 4-9.
